The WFDC was formed in 2009 and was assigned the task of being the entity responsible for securing the required private funds needed to successfully complete the Manchester Field Renovation Project (MFRP). The MFRP is a two phased project. Phase 1 which was highlighted by the construction of a new multi-purpose synthetic playing surface, bleachers, press box and scoreboard was completed on schedule and on budget with $1,350,000 of public money from the Town of Winchester and $277,228 of private funds donated through the WFDC.
Phase 2 for which the WFDC is currently requesting contributions for the construction of a new state of the art Track and Field facility at Manchester Field. This facility will have benefits for all of Winchesters residents regardless of age or special interest. Our community has several track and field programs such as the Highlanders Running Club, Hersey Track and Field Program for children of pre-high school age and of course the Winchester High School track and field program. We also have many community residents from 10 years of age to 90 with diverse backgrounds that enjoy the recreational and health benefits that a track and field facility can offer to a community.
On November 7, 2011 the Winchester Town Meeting body voted in favor of article 7 which provides public funding in the amount of $200,000 for Phase 2 of the MFRP, provided that the balance of $711,000 needed to fund the project is secured from private donations prior to June 30, 2012. Currently, the WFDC has made tremendous progress towards raising the needed $711,000. We have secured nearly $500,000 in cash and pledges. We are confident that with your help, we will meet our goal by June 30th.
